      <title>Native Americans Against Obama- The Buffalo War</title>
      <link>http://chicanokidb.cabbycentral.com/2008/09/05/native-americans-against-obama-the-buffalo-war.html</link>
      <description>
I have to say this is a issue adjacent to my heart.  The number of bison slaughtered each year continues to grow.  I am sure numerous shall say, that this has nothing to do with Obama.  I happen to disagree, because of the fact that he could help.  But only, if he chooses to.  A bill was introduced in 2005 The Yellowstone Buffalo Preservation Act (HR 242
The health as well as well-being of the last surviving wild population of bison in the United States depends on what happens next. Though no legislative action has been taken by the subcommittee, Congress has requested the General Accounting Office to investigate as well as report on Yellowstone bison management as well as a $13 million dollar taxpayer financed agreement to protect 6,770 acre of habitat on behalf of wildlife on the Royal Teton Ranch.
However, this bill has gone no where.  It was sent to sub committee in 03/07.  So Obama could step in as well as see to it, to help save the buffalo. A new Bill could be introduced, or he could stand behind us as well as take the lead contacting the subcommittee as well as letting them know he supports this issue in order to stop the slaughter.  Our Nations bison are a national treasure, as well as should not be killed.  They are as important to this country, as the bald eagle.
There was a time, when they roamed the Americas.  The thunderbeast, gave life to numerous of our people.  In the 19th century, the buffalo were hunted to an estimated extinction.  We can't let that happen again.
This is not a issue where Obama did not vote.  The bill has never made it any further than the house.  So, I am sure that Obama supporters shall say, there's nothing he can do.  I disagree, he could draft a new bill, or reach out to subcommittee members.  There is a reason I do not think he will.  Its because of the fact that killing of the bison, is what some ranchers want.
A handful of ranchers graze cattle on public as well as private land adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. The Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) claim that these cattle are at risk of contracting brucellosis from Yellowstone’s buffalo, a disease originally took to wildlife from European cattle. It is extremely important to note that there has never been a documented case of a wild buffalo transmitting brucellosis to livestock. Brucellosis is a disease that can cause spontaneous abortions in cattle. The state of Montana on behalf of the livestock industry has killed more than 3200 buffalo since 1985 based on the unsubstantiated fear that Yellowstone buffalo shall transmit brucellosis to cattle. There has, however, never been a confirmed case of brucellosis transmission from buffalo to cattle under natural conditions. Indeed, in Grand Teton National Park, where infected buffalo as well as livestock have co-mingled on behalf of more than 45 years, there has not been a single incident of disease transmission.
I am sure Obama supporters shall also say, why hasn&#8217;t McCain done anything, as well as the video does not draw attention to him.  That is true, I do not deny that. However, we are trying to point out Obama made a promise, to stand behind Native American Issues.
We are asking Obama to full fill his promise.  This is what he said to us.  &#8220;I desire you to know that I shall never forget you,&#8221; he said. The United States government can't undo wrongs against Indian peoples, he said But they can elect a president committed to do what&#8217;s right on behalf of Native Americans.s as well as sisters&#8221;.
&#8220;And since now I&#8217;m a member of the family you know I won&#8217;t break my promises to my brother
So far, Obama has done nothing to fillfull this promise.  Words, are just that, words.  Without action, they have no meaning&#8230;&#8230;.
